Advocacy and Communications Subgroup

Mission

This committee liaises with external stakeholders such as AFHTO (Associations of Family Health Team of Ontario), CSHP (Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists, OPA (Ontario Pharmacists Association), OCP (Ontario College of Pharmacists), Universities of Toronto and Waterloo, OHT (Ontario Health Teams), the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care (MOHLTC) and other groups to ensure recruitment and retention of pharmacists working in primary care teams

Objectives

Formally interact with stakeholder groups about needs and value of FHT pharmacists including letters/ communication, meetings and events

Develop a strategy for advocacy with stakeholders

Provide more information to Network members on health care system, advice giving bodies and including recommendations on how to engage in this work

  • Update the website
  • Create social media posts outlining the
    role primary care pharmacists play

  • Integrate information from other subgroups
  • Develop and plan including the identification of resources to develop communication tools

Highlights/Accomplishments

• 2021 Primary Care Pharmacists Wage Survey (annually)

• Updated List Serve of all members in Ontario

• Created an infographic on the Role of the Primary Care (Impact) Pharmacist

• Members wrote letters to local MPP’s (Importance of Role) and MOHLTC

• Letter sent to Executive Directors of inter-professional Care Teams that do not currently have a pharmacist

• Members wrote letters to their own Executive Directors regarding their role and duties

• Working with Communications subgroup to establish Social Media Presence (Twitter; Facebook and LinkedIn to come!)

• Establishing greater representation on Ontario Health Teams

• Create two new subcommittees- Awards and Sponsorship (in progress)
